Arranging and Transcribing

Arranging

I've been arranging large ensemble music since 2013. It all started with my Pickpockets & Rascals project that focused on pairing bands/singer-songwriters with a large chamber ensemble. Here is the Crooked Fiddle Band with a 20 piece string section playing to a sold out crowd at the Basement, Sydney.

“Michael was able to bring to life something we’d always dreamed about but knew was a monumental task - he made sense of our complex music and was sensitive about where to add layers and were to support our arrangements. With a professional approach and a creative ear, we couldn’t be happier with Michael’s results.”
-Joe Gould, Drummer
Unbelievable vocalist Louise Nutting of Wartime Sweethearts releasing her sophomore album "So Long Sparta". The whole set was arranged for an 11 piece chamber ensemble.

"I really enjoyed working with Michael for his creativity, enthusiasm and professionalism. His arrangements of my songs fit perfectly with my aesthetic."

Here is Sydney hip-hop artist Rapaport performing "ClapTrap" with an 18 piece ensemble of strings, woodwinds and percussion.

Transcribing

I love transcribing both for myself and others. I've transcribed string quartets, gospel music, jazz flute, soul saxophone and hip-hop drum patterns. I have a high attention to detail and a relatively quick turnaround.

"Michael’s arrangement for my junior strings group to accompany the school choir was a big success. He wrote parts that the young students could manage easily thanks to his knowledge as a string player and teacher. The students enjoyed learning and performing the item together at the College’s Presentation Evening at Costa Hall".
-Catherine Blake, String Ensemble Teacher

"When I was in need of some music having only received a recording, Michael arranged and transcribed some pieces for me extremely quickly and did a wonderful job!"

Lidia Bara, Violinist

"Michael transcribed two pieces of an audio file of guitar and voice and arranged them for voice, guitar, piano and drumkit. The final product is excellent - very professional and his turnaround was quick. I was super impressed with his services and would recommend him highly".
